Operational efficiency

Operational efficiency means getting your work done well without wasting time, money, or effort along the way. In a small team, waste usually looks like copying the same details into two tools, chasing the same answer twice, or doing a report by hand every week. We work with a five-person online homewares store that typed 60 supplier invoices a month into Xero. Now an AI helper (the industry calls it an agent) reads each invoice from the inbox and drafts the bill in Xero, and the bookkeeper checks and approves them in one sitting a week. Invoices from overseas suppliers in other currencies are still done by hand. Being efficient doesn't mean cutting every human step, because some steps, like a final check, are where mistakes get caught.
